MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - A "homemade explosive device" was detonated in a wooded area in Greater Cincinnati, prompting an investigation from local law enforcement and the FBI.

According to a release from Hamilton County's Miami Township Fire & EMS, at around 8:39 a.m. on Saturday firefighters from the Miami Township Fire Department were dispatched to East Miami River Road to respond to a "loud explosion" that caused smoke in a nearby wooded area to the west of Cincinnati.

"After investigation, a handmade explosive device was found in the wooded area that had detonated," the release said.

The department noted that the incident was being investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the FBI.

The release urged locals to stay away from the affected area since it was still an active crime scene.
