Passengers arrive safely at CVG after bomb threat found on Allegiant flight
HEBRON, Ky (WXIX) - An Allegiant flight arrived safely back at CVG Saturday morning after a bomb threat forced passengers at St. Pete - Clearwater International Airport to evacuate the plane.
Officials with CVG say Allegiant flight 2006 landed around 10:28 a.m. It was scheduled to return at 6:11 p.m. Saturday.
“Very relieved, very excited to be back,” said passenger Emily Crown.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri says the flight was getting ready to head back to CVG after briefly landing in St. Pete when a flight attendant found a “very explicit” bomb threat on note on the bathroom door.
Sheriff Gualtieri says the pilot stopped the plane and all of the passengers evacuated safely.
“You’ve got to feel for these people who just came to the airport to get on a flight and to go about their business,” Gualtieri said. “To say it was a disruption and to say it was a mess is an understatement.”
According to the sheriff, the threat was broad in scope and threatened all Allegiant flights at the airport.
The airport was closed while police investigated the threat.
The sheriff says bomb-sniffing dogs searched and found no explosives.
The sheriff says that St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport was cleared, with no safety concerns.
According to a spokesperson with Allegiant, law enforcement said that the “issue was determined to be non-credible.”
Deputies are still investigating the threat and do not have a suspect at this time.
